Place Names of Calne: St. Nicholas Close

St. Nicholas Close.
St. Nicholas Close was built in the 1980's, primarily as semi-detached housing. It is named for St. Nicholas of Myra (280-343), known for using his inheritance for help the poor and the sick[1].

St. Mary the Virgin and St. Nicholas at Sandy Lane, Calne Without, was originally named Church of St. Nicholas before being rededicated in 1981. It is one of the few thatched churches that remain in Britain.
